Decarbonisation of housing stock needs addressing

On 22 March 2021, the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) published the outcome of its inquiry into the energy efficiency of homes.

What does this mean to the end-user?

  • The report raises concerns that the government has underestimated the costs of decarbonising the UK’s homes, if the net-zero targets are to be met
  • Specifically, it highlights insufficient commitment to improving the energy efficiency of the housing stock
  • The report recommends changes to the current Energy Performance Certificate regime and related funding programmes, to accelerate the uptake of energy efficiency measures
  • End users with interests in domestic energy efficiency may find the report useful evidence in support of their planning
