Radio Teleswitch Service

On June 30, 2025, the technology supporting Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) meters will be discontinued. TotalEnergies Gas & Power is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all our customers, so we are reaching out to all those impacted to offer them a meter upgrade before the service ends.

What is the Radio Teleswitch Service?

The Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) uses a radio signal to communicate with older electricity meters, instructing them to switch between peak and off-peak rates based on the time of day. This service is now reaching the end of its operational life and would likely lead to abnormalities in heating and hot water functions for such meters after the switch-off date.

Do you have an RTS Meter?

To check if you have an RTS meter, here's what to consider:

  • • Is there a separate switch box near your meter labeled “Radio Teleswitch”? • Do you heat your property using electricity or storage heaters? • Is there no gas supply to your area? • Does your meter switch between peak and off-peak tariffs?

What happens next?

We are working in partnership with our meter operator provider (SMS) to facilitate the migration of our customers from RTS meters to Smart Meters. SMS will contact you to arrange an appointment to have your meter exchanged. Due to the thousands of customers who require this change, we strongly recommend that customers schedule this change as soon as possible by either requesting a meter upgrade online or responding to the SMS team when contacted.

Radio Teleswitch Meter (RTS) Exchange

A number of our customers have historic RTS meters which are controlled by a radio signal to switch between peak and off-peak times.

This RTS service is due to be switched off on 30th June 2025, meaning that RTS meters will no longer function properly.

We’ve identified these affected customers and are liaising with them to arrange an AMR or smart meter exchange before the service closes.
