Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement
On 20th April 2021, OFGEM (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets) published the decision to implement Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS).
The Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement programme is an Elexon led initiative that will bring the most significant change in how electricity is being used and accounted for since the introduction of the non-half hourly market in 1998. At TotalEnergies Gas & Power, we are gearing up to be ready for the changes.
Set to be implemented in 2026, Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement will introduce site-specific reconciliation using half-hourly data, ensuring a faster & more accurate settlement process for all market participants. In turn, providing greater transparency & accuracy in the measurement of energy usage & billing to better support businesses managing their energy consumption.
Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement is a key enabler for a smarter, more flexible energy system, vital in supporting flexible solutions for the UK's transition to Net Zero by 2050. The programme aims to change consumer behaviour which will decrease our carbon footprint by reducing demand on the grid at peak times and the need for expensive generation capacity.
No action is required for our customers. As your supplier, TotalEnergies Gas & Power will manage the industry changes and inform you if there is anything that you need to be aware of. For further information, read our FAQs below.
